Does the I Ching Work the Same for Everyone?

A common question: “My readings here feel accurate. Will another person using this same website get a reading that is just as accurate?” The short answer is yes — the tool is neutral and consistent. The longer answer is the I Ching’s own.

Accuracy does not come from who is casting, but from two things that never change: a consistent method, and sincere engagement. The hexagram that captures this best is The Well (Jing, Hexagram 48).

The judgment of Hexagram 48 says: “The Well. The town may be changed, but the well cannot be changed. It neither decreases nor increases. People come and go, drawing from the well. If the rope does not reach the water, or if the jar is broken, there is misfortune.”

The well is a shared resource. It does not run dry, and it does not favor one person over another. Everyone who comes to it is offered the same water. What differs is the bucket, the rope, and the jar each person brings.

In the same way, this website’s divination process is the well: a fixed, uniform method available to every visitor. Your clarity, your intention, and your care in asking are the rope and the jar. When those are in order, the reading flows; when they are neglected, the reading can feel off — not because the well failed, but because the drawing was careless.

• A settled mind. Cast when calm, not desperate. Strongly craving one particular answer can color the whole reading.
• Your own effort. The I Ching points; you walk. Accuracy is in what you do with the guidance, not in a guarantee of the future.
• Sincerity, not dependence. The source is neutral. It rewards a sincere questioner, and it does not hand decisions to someone who will not think for themselves.
