In Practice
Fellowship shows fire beneath heaven: light rising to meet the open sky. It is the hexagram of community, shared purpose, and working openly with others. Its defining condition is that the fellowship be public and principled. The judgment says it furthers to cross the great water — meaning the undertaking can be large, but only because it is held together by something honest and shared. The teaching is that true belonging is found in openness and common cause, not in secret alliances or private cliques.
In love
A relationship grounded in genuine friendship and shared values, not merely attraction. This hexagram favors the couple who are also allies, working toward something together in the open. Guard against cliquishness — the partnership that shuts the world out becomes small.
In career
Build alliances around a common goal and work openly. Collaboration across teams, honest partnerships, and transparent goals are what make the large project succeed. The closed circle, by contrast, breeds suspicion and stalls.
In money
Partnerships and shared ventures fare well when they are transparent and principled. Avoid the secret deal or the insider arrangement — what is hidden now will cost you later. Open, aligned interests compound.
Guidance
Seek your people, but gather them around a purpose larger than the group itself. Work openly, on principle, and the fellowship will carry the undertaking farther than you could alone.
Watch out
A fellowship that closes in on itself becomes a faction. Keep the door open and the purpose honest, or the community will turn against its own founding ideal.
