Judgment

Innocence (Wu Wang): supreme success, beneficial to be steadfast and correct. If one is not correct, there will be misfortune, and it will not be beneficial to undertake anything.

In Practice

Innocence shows thunder beneath heaven: strong movement that is nevertheless natural and unpremeditated. It is the hexagram of the unforced, the guileless, the action taken without hidden calculation. Its warning is that innocence does not protect against accident — the innocent person can still meet misfortune, like a tethered ox led away. The teaching is not that purity guarantees safety, but that the right way to act is without scheming: do what is correct because it is correct, and let the outcome be what it is.

In love

Approach the relationship without manipulation or hidden agendas. Be straightforward about your intentions and feelings. What is won by scheming is not really won; what is given freely to the honest person is the only love worth keeping.

In career

Act with integrity and without maneuvering. Do the right work for its own sake, not to game the outcome. The uncalculated approach attracts trust, and trust is the foundation of lasting success — even when, sometimes, the innocent still meet bad luck.

In money

Avoid schemes, shortcuts, and anything that requires you to outsmart others. Invest plainly and honestly, and accept that not every outcome is controllable. The innocent path does not guarantee profit, but it avoids the ruin that scheming invites.

Guidance

Act naturally and without ulterior motive. Do what is right for its own sake, and accept that outcomes are not fully in your hands. Innocence is its own protection, though not against every accident.

Watch out

Do not mistake innocence for naivety — you can be guileless and still prudent. And do not expect your purity to exempt you from misfortune; it frees you from guilt, not from accident.
