In Practice
Influence shows a lake on a mountain: the yielding above the firm, the younger below the elder. It is the hexagram of attraction, courtship, and the subtle power of influence — the pull between two people that is felt before it is understood. The image is of the mountain bearing the lake, the strong gladly supporting the yielding. The teaching is that genuine influence works through openness and receptivity, not through force. To win another, be open yourself; to be moved, be willing to be moved. Attraction is mutual or it is nothing.
In love
The hexagram of courtship and mutual attraction. Let yourself be open and receptive, and let the other feel welcome to move toward you. Attraction cannot be forced or demanded; it grows where both are willing to be moved. Sincerity, not strategy, is what draws a heart.
In career
Influence others through receptivity and genuine interest, not through pressure. Listen before you persuade, and let your openness draw people toward your view. The one who can be moved by others is the one others are moved by.
In money
Attract opportunity through openness and good relationships rather than aggressive pursuit. Deals and partnerships come to the receptive and trustworthy. Do not force; let the pull be mutual and the terms be fair.
Guidance
Be open and receptive, and influence will be mutual rather than forced. To draw another, first be willing to be moved yourself. Attraction is the meeting of two openings, not the triumph of one will.
Watch out
Forcing attraction repels it, and mistaking infatuation for influence leads to error. Let the pull be real and mutual, and do not mistake a passing spark for a lasting bond.
