In Practice

The Power of the Great shows thunder above heaven: power at its height, strong and rising. It is the hexagram of great strength — in body, position, or influence. Its warning is precise: power must be paired with restraint, or it becomes force misused. The judgment says the strong man does not use his strength improperly. The teaching is that genuine power is self-governing; the ability to act with force is only admirable when you choose not to, except where it is right. Strength without self-restraint is just violence wearing authority's clothes.

In love

One partner holds more power — more certainty, more leverage, more force of personality. The test is whether that strength is used gently. Do not push your advantage or win by force; power that restrains itself is what makes a partner feel safe rather than dominated.

In career

You are in a position of strength. Use it with restraint — do not throw your weight around, overreach, or crush opposition merely because you can. The leader whose power is self-governed earns loyalty; the one who wields it freely breeds resentment.
