In Practice
The Family shows wind rising from fire: warmth within, influence spreading outward. It is the hexagram of the household, the inner circle, and the relationships that form the foundation of everything else. Its teaching is that a family works when each person occupies their right place and plays their part with faithfulness — not through rigid hierarchy, but through each one's sincere fulfillment of their role. The image is that what is well-ordered at home naturally radiates outward; a person who cannot govern their own household cannot govern anything larger.
In love
The relationship is a household in miniature: it works when both partners fulfill their roles faithfully and support each other's place. Clarity about who does what, and mutual faithfulness, is more sustaining than romance alone. Order at home is the root of everything else.
In career
Look to your inner foundation — your team's internal order, your own household and habits — because outward success rests on it. A leader whose inner circle is in order leads well; one whose house is in disorder cannot sustain the larger work.
In money
Put your own financial house in order before chasing outward gains. A budget, clear roles, and faithful stewardship of what you already have are the foundation. The well-ordered household is the base from which wealth grows.
Guidance
Put your inner circle in order — each person in their true place, each role fulfilled faithfully. What is well-ordered at home radiates outward and supports everything larger. Begin with the foundation.
Watch out
Do not mistake rigid control for right order, nor neglect the inner circle for the sake of outer success. The household is the root; what is disordered there will undermine the rest.
