Divergence. Small matters bring good fortune.

In Practice

Opposition shows fire above a lake: two elements that move apart, the flame rising, the water sinking. It is the hexagram of divergence, estrangement, and the gap between people who see the world differently. Its teaching is paradoxical: opposition cannot be removed by force, but it can be lived with fruitfully. The judgment says that in small matters things can still go well — meaning that while the large views differ, shared small things keep people bound. The wise do not demand agreement on everything; they find the small common ground and let difference remain.

In love

You and your partner see things very differently, and the gap is widening. Do not try to force agreement on the big questions. Tend the small shared things — daily kindness, common routines, the love that survives disagreement. Difference does not have to become division.

In career

You are at odds with a colleague, a team, or a direction. Do not insist on total alignment; it will not come. Find the small practical agreements that let the work continue, and respect the difference rather than fighting it. Small shared ground is enough to keep moving.

In money

Partners or parties hold opposing views on a deal or investment. Do not force a total resolution. Agree on the small, concrete terms that serve both, and let the larger disagreement stand. A workable arrangement beats a principled standoff.

Guidance

Accept that some differences cannot be resolved, and stop trying to force agreement. Hold the small things in common, and let the large oppositions remain without becoming enmity. Divergence need not divide.

Watch out

Trying to erase all difference provokes conflict, while abandoning all common ground breeds estrangement. The path is the small shared thing, tended faithfully.
